The
 Queensland
Amateur Fishing Clubs’ Association is fully committed to angler
education and we have several qualified Angler Education Officers
throughout the state, from Cairns in the north to Brisbane in the
south. Our instructors are happy
 to
run fishing courses for schools and adult groups, or if we have
interested individuals, we will endeavour to get a group together.
These courses are about learning to fish – the ‘how’, ‘when’,
‘where’ and ‘why’. The ‘how’ is how to rig your rod or line, the
‘when’ is when is the best time to go fishing, the ‘where’ is
where you will find the fish and the ‘why’ is why we use the gear
and tackle we do and the various types of bait.
During the period of the
course, you will learn how to tie different knots, rig a rod, gather bait,
read water, view videos and you will try your hand at casting. You will
look at the latest innovations in tackle as opposed to the
 tackle
of yesteryear. We can show you how to release fish alive back to the water
without harming them, find out what to do if you catch a tagged fish and
look at tags and how and why they are used. We will also show you how to
fillet your catch. You will be given the opportunity to talk to club
anglers and learn how to go about joining a club, should you so desire.
At the completion of this
preliminary education, we will endeavour to take you on a day’s outing to
put into practice the theory we have espoused. Courses will be tailored
for the group we are taking at the time. Costs will also depend on the
length of the course and where we go fishing.
Q.A.F.C.A. is about
helping all anglers to catch fish. Once you have done one of our courses,
you should be able to go out and catch fish in most areas. Gone should be
the days where you go fishing only to achieve a negative result. To book
