A.A.A. CHAMPIONSHIPS & CONVENTION 2009

The A.A.A. National Angling Championships and Convention will be conducted by the South Australian Division on the Copper Coast of the Yorke Peninsula, with the headquarters at Wallaroo.

CC NEWS

           October 2008                                  Volume 1.3

Welcome to the third edition of the 2009 Convention Newsletter.

Our Competition and Social programs were endorsed by the Federal Executive at the March meeting and are detailed in this newsletter.

As mentioned previously, the S.A. Division conducted its 2008 State Championship events within the Convention boundaries. Results were very encouraging with catches comprising mostly of S.A’s recognised species including bag limits of King George Whiting and Snapper. Snapper were also caught in the Rock & Beach event and we are confident the areas we have selected will yield a satisfactory variety of quality fish.

Following the Estuary event, we have found it necessary to re-define the Estuary boundaries to allow for better visual and electronic determination of the designated area. The change is moderate and maps will be provided for all competitions.

Just a couple of reminders :

  1. No weigh-in bags will be provided; fish must be presented at weigh-in on ice in eskies.
  2. Although most bait is available locally, we anticipate there could be a cockle (pipi) shortage in S.A. and competitors should consider bringing their own supply.
  3. Boat operator’s licences are required in South Australia. Licences issued in other states are valid for 30 days.

       4.  Boat wash-down facilities are available at both boat ramps.

SOCIAL

Delegates and visitors at the Federal Executive meeting were impressed with the activities arranged. We must make special mention of our two excursions .

  1. Clare Valley wine region tour – Saturday, 28 March. This tour will include lunch at the historic Sevenhills Winery and visits to other attractions.
  2. Tourist train trip, with dinner, at Bute – Tuesday, 31 March. Train departs at 4:30p.m.

The cost of both of these trips will be dependent on the numbers booking, so we will be seeking expressions of interest in participating.
